Starting college
Okay, this isn’t an earthshattering blog entry. It’s just an update about my life.
I started college.
Update over. Now I’m going to endorse Howard Dean.
I’m kidding.
Well, here are the things about college I have particularly strong feelings about:
Econ 101: This is one of my favorite classes. From the wild-eyed professor to the fascinating subject matter, I can’t get enough. The TA, who teaches the lab section, suggests I should be an econ major because I’m good at economics. Right now my major is Business Administration.
GenEd 110: World Civilizations. This is the class they require everyone to take (except Honors students, and I aspire to become one). So obviously this class is taught to the lowest common denominator, and even at college, that means its below me. The professor incessantly treats us like we’re in high school (for God’s sakes, she takes up 20 minutes of each lecture calling roll!). Ugh. But on the upside, it’s actually somewhat interesting.
Math 201: Dr. Ng is a good professor. Like nearly any good math instructor, when she shows us how to do math, she makes it seem easy. She has an accent, sure, but she’s good-natured about it, and it’s not difficult to comprehend her.
MIS 250: Eh. It’s required for business majors. It’s not too horrible. I guess that’s all I can really say about it. The professor, Dr. Hess, seems to be a very qualified, professional lecturer, which ought to be expected, but after Dr. Swan of my GenEd class, it’s good to see a lecturer like that.
Bio 150: This is a class on evolution. The professor, Dr. Kardong, is an excellent lecturer. The lectures are always fascinating and informative, and yield the most comprehensive notes that I take. Overall, excellent class.
High-Speed Internet: The resnet makes living on campus a dream come true. Unfortunately, worms and viruses hinder its speed. I suggest we kill all the Windows users.
The Food: Horrible! This is the first time in my life that poor food quality has inspired me to skip meals! Ugh! Incidentally, some of my pants that didn’t fit before, fit now. I’m back down to a size 34 waist. And why? Why? Because the fucking dining centers are horrible, and because I’d rather not eat for two straight days than eat at one of them!
Well, I guess they aren’t THAT bad…But it’s awful inconvenient sometimes, when I’m busy, to go eat. And when I have a free hour, they’re always closed…
