How to know you’re in a fun class

Monday, August 21st, 2006

My electrical engineering professor just spent twenty minutes ranting about how engineers are better and more important human beings than everyone else.

He also described IEEE student group activities as involving “…rafting, pizza, beverages of some description…”

How to tell you are in a weed-out class

Monday, August 21st, 2006

Things my computer science instructor said in class today:

“My assignments have been described as everything from fun to challenging to brutal.”

“I can only take a limited amount of time per week…somewhere around 168 hours. And I do expect you to take an hour per day for shower.”

(in response to my “An hour?”) “Well, shower, food, sleep…you can think about your assignment in the shower, though.”

“We have a grad student who has all A’s and one A- all the way from undergraduate to Ph.D. I gave him the A-. He just skipped one part of one assignment…”

Making the move

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

Well, as of today, I’m starting to move into my new house, which is only 5 minutes away from campus. (It’s 5 minutes away from the outskirts of campus, but that means a decent 15-20 minute walk to class, which is perfectly attainable).

The plan is to move furniture tomorrow and the last of my belongings Thursday. Once I’m moved in, expect another photoblog showing off the new place.

Friday, well, those in the know will understand what movie I’m seeing on Friday.

I also need to finish registering for classes (at the last minute? brilliant!) and look into getting some employment. Since I have financial aid, employment isn’t a huge issue, but it’s good to have. I’m also looking into developig some self-employment opportunities so I can vary my own workload according to how much free time I have.

Some might be ashamed…

…but those who know me will not be that surprised that, despite being 21 for over sixteen hours, I have not yet ingested alcohol.

Tomorrow, I’m gonna pack up for my Sunday trip back to Pullman. My agenda:

Sunday, August 6
9:00 AM: Depart from the Angeles. (Port Angeles, not Los Angeles!)
12:00 PM-ish: Visit Edmonds, Washington for The First Annual Jacqueline Passey Convention (or, more accurately, lunch with Jacqui and her friends.)
Sometime after that: Depart Edmonds, taking I-405 south to I-90, east to WA-26, east to Pullman
Anytime between 6:00-9:00 PM: Experience Pullmania
