I agree with you trust is at the core of the gun debate. However, I don't think it's over the responsibilities of the people vs. those of the state, per se. It has to do with what one believes about human behavior.

The idea of negative liberty is predicated on the belief people are usually rational and fair-minded in their actions. We give the state authority to intervene when a person or group establishes otherwise. The qualifier here is, 'usually'. The radicals among us -- I'm not sure the term anarchists accurately describes them -- demagogue the issue for political gain.

I can identify with your situation. I'm a (doctoral) student, and there are many procrastination temptations.

But just as you suggest, not all procrastination is created equal.

It can sometimes be good to procrastinate - it can lead to less struggle, delay (counter-intuitive, but true), and more optimal functioning.

There's a new book out titled Productive Procrastination, and it describes how to do it, how to tell productive from destructive procrastination, and how to end the destruction kind. It's available on Amazon.com. Learn more about the book at www.Procrastivity.com

Totally OT:

I was just on Wonkette and happened to glance at the "most recent comment" widget. It's on this post:

http://wonkette.com/341739/paultards-fight-hucklers-fight-sean-hannity?autoplay=true

And it said...

"At about 42 secs to go...is that famous libertarian cunt Jacqueline Mackie Paisley Passey? You just know she's a Paultard. Or are all libertarian chicks that shockingly homely?"

Raaaaaandom!

(I can't tell if it's her or not.)
